Brazilian Football League format

Currently, there are 20 clubs that compete in the Brazilian Football League during the regular season that lasts from May to December. Here, each football club plays the other twice in a round-robin format, for a total of 38 games.

During the Brazilian Football League matches, three points are awarded for a win and one point is given for a draw. Just like many other popular football leagues, no point is given for a draw in this tournament. At the end of the Brazilian Football League season, the club with the highest number of points is crowned as the champion.

Speaking of the promotions and relegations, the bottom four teams in the Brazilian Football League are relegated to Série B, whereas the top four clubs get promoted to Brasileirão Série A. Since the 2016 season, the top six teams in the Brazilian Football League also get qualified for the Copa Libertadores de América football competition.
