Sunrisers Hyderabad History

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) replaced Deccan Chargers in 2012 and made their debut in the 2013 edition of the league. Ahead of the 2013 IPL season, Sunrisers retained 20 players from Deccan Chargers, which left them with 13 open slots for players. These slots were then filled with the likes of Thisara Perera, Darren Sammy, Sudeep Tyagi, and Nathan McCullum. SRH managed to reach the playoffs in their debut season, but they got eliminated after losing a game against Rajasthan Royals.

The captaincy of SRH was handed to Shikhar Dhawan in the 2014 IPL season, where the side finished sixth with six wins and eight losses. The 2015 IPL season again saw a change in leadership for SRH, with David Warner taking the captaincy duty for the side. While SRH finished sixth with seven wins and seven losses in the 2015 season, they went on to claim their maiden IPL title in the 2016 edition of the league.

Since their IPL debut in 2013, SRH has managed to reach the playoffs stage five times. The consistency of SRH has fixed the franchise’s berth among the top teams in IPL betting markets.

Owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad overtook Deccan Chargers when it went bankrupt in 2012. The franchise is owned by Sun TV Network under the ownership of Kalanithi Maran, the founder and Chairman of Sun Group. Sun TV Network is one of the biggest TV networks in India with 32 channels and 45 FM radio stations.

Home Ground of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad plays its home games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium located in Hyderabad, Telangana. The stadium extends across 16 acres of land and has a seating capacity of 55,000. To date, the venue has hosted several national as well as international matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Team strengths

Sunrisers Hyderabad has one of the best opening duos in the form of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. Both of them have delivered exceptional performances for SRH in the last few seasons and have the potential to alter the course of the game when needed.

SRH also has a great spin trio of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Shahbaz Nadeem. Rashid Khan has always been stellar in the IPL, with Shahbaz Nadeem and Mohammad Nabi also being in great form. The trio makes SRH extremely good in its spin bowling department.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Team weaknesses

A major weakness of Sunrisers Hyderabad is that it lacks depth in its middle-order. So, if their top-order fails to post a good total, they don’t have many options to rely on.

Another problem with Sunrisers Hyderabad is that its Indian players aren’t always in their best form. This tends to put a lot of pressure and responsibility on its overseas recruits.
